I remember these choppers in 1965 at Terthill

My Dad was the navigator in the B26 variant based out of Sembach, Germany with the Tactical Reconnaissance Wing in the early 1950’s. Their planes were black with yellow chevrons on the tail. He loved the plane and got to fly it a few times. Despite winning a Cincinnati air race in his youth his vision kept him from being a pilot in the Air Force and loved crewing as a navigator.

honestly, i personally think piston engines sound so much better than the turbine engines. Though I do understand that the turbines are much more efficient and reliable in helis. Just something so nice about the roar of a piston engine

Ha, a Willow Grove NAS (but the letters change many times over the years) reference. I worked at 700 Dresher Rd for 15 yrs and work at 101 Tournament Dr for 18 years. Many plane types were stationed there. A4s, P3s, A10s ... Navy & PA ANG. 'The Base' had many Air Shows, sometimes with the Blue Angels, and several Air Force One comings & goings. We were 'lunch walking' when Obama's AF1 took off just on the other side of trees as we were approaching the club's restaurant. We cheered then jeered.

Now that's a classic example of a beautiful aeroplane,. Many still flying After many decades . RESPECT !!!

Nothing compares to the powering up of the R-3350 18 cylinder radial engine, one of 4 used on the Martin Mars flying boat water bomber of which I saw on Sproat Lake Canada countless times over the decades. Sadly it will soon be no more. as the last Mars plane is being prepped for a coming final flight and departure to the Pima Air Museum in Arizona USA

We watched all that just to see it take off 😢
